As I sit here staring at my screen (and maybe procrastinating just a little), I can’t help but feel incredibly lucky to have such an amazing squad behind me. Whether you’ve cheered me on from the sidelines, snagged one of my books, or nodded along while I rambled about a plot twist, THANK YOU. Seriously, you’re the real MVPs.
Writing can feel like a solo act—just me, a keyboard, and a cup of coffee that always gets cold (how does that keep happening?). But then I remember I’ve got a dream team in my corner, keeping me motivated and sane.
First up, a massive shout-out to my friends who’ve been there since Day One. Danielle Bollinger, you’re a superhero. From running my website to helping with these very blog posts, you’ve put in so many late nights despite your crazy schedule. I can’t thank you enough! Jeff Kohler, you get a gold star, too. Even while prepping for your wedding in Mexico, you still found time to whip up the flyers for my book launch. Legend.
To my test readers: you’re the secret sauce behind my creative process. My mom and mother-in-law are always the first to finish my books (and while I suspect they’re being extra nice in their reviews, it still means the world). Ashley, thank you for making time to give feedback even when your schedule is packed. Knowing how much you love reading makes it feel less like a chore, but your help is invaluable.
And Paige Bowermaster—what a rock star! You turned my vision for A Game as Old as Time into a stunning cover that helped make it a top release on Amazon. Your talent is next level, and I can’t wait to collaborate again on future projects.
This year’s been a whirlwind, to say the least. Between coaching football and soccer, juggling a full-time job, weddings, spring/fall campus visits, and releasing two books, there were plenty of days I felt like a hot mess. But reconnecting with Ann Schmidt, one of my former teachers, was a highlight. Her support during my book launch for A Battle for Fire made a huge difference, and I’m so excited to see her work at Alvernia University thrive.
Last but never least: my wife, Katie. You’re my rock. From taking the kids out so I can write, to reading my rough drafts, to listening to me vent about the publishing grind—you’ve done it all. And you somehow still keep me grounded. You know when to nudge me to take a break, and when to give me space to keep going. At the end of the day, your review is the one I care about most.
To everyone else reading this: I care about your reviews too! 😉 If you’ve read one of my books, I’d love for you to drop a quick review on Amazon or Goodreads before the holiday madness kicks in.
Big things are coming in the new year, and I can’t wait to share what’s next. Until then, have an amazing holiday season. Pick up a few good books, spend time with the people you love, and soak up every moment.
Cheers and happy reading,
Jake
